In Memoriam - Michele Kahn

In Memoriam Michele Kahn
It is with great sadness in our heart that we let you know that Michele Malamud Kahn, our beloved friend and colleague, passed away on May 21st, 2019 after 15 years of dealing with low-grade ovarian cancer, surrounded by her family and friends that loved her. She was mostly private about her illness always wanted to help others, no matter how tired and ill she felt. She never wanted to let her students, friends and colleagues down and kept working until late 2018.
Michele was the Secretary General of the IAIE and also Associate Editor of the IAIE journal Intercultural Education. She was co-founder of the new umbrella organization WCEDE (World Coalition for Equity and Diversity Education). Michele was an Associate Professor of Studies in Language and Culture department in the College of Education at the University of Houston- Clear Lake since 2004. She taught courses on equity, diversity, communication and language.
Michele was passionate about teaching and all aspects of social justice, and she was especially a fighter for LGBTQ rights. Michele loved animals, traveling, Greece, reading and was always ready for a next adventure. She loved spending time with family and friends and was known for her kindness, caring and great sense of humor.
Michele’s passing leaves a massive crater in our hearts and the world is a little darker without her. We are all better for having known her and lucky enough to have had her in our lives as long as we did.
The IAIE and HAIE (branch in Greece) will dedicate our next scheduled events to the memory of Michele. WCEDE will also dedicate its next Summit to Michele. Please feel free to disseminate this news
On behalf of IAIE, shared with WCEDE
